Development Programs

Challenges Northwest® utilizes four major types of experiential programs and one combination program,

These programs lead to: TEAMBUILDING

They are differentiated according to their primary learning goals and are designed to make you better equipped to "Thrive Beyond Life's Uncertainties".

Developmental Programs

Developmental programs change participant functional behavior and are about acting differently. These are usually applied to intact groups/teams. Transfer is emphasized, with activities tailored to the organization’s culture. Program objectives are directly integrated with organizational development goals. Client (human resource, counselors, trainers, or teaching) professionals from the client have roles as assistant facilitators in the program. As a result, the focus of the program is the system shifting to support positive behavioral change. Program length typically varies from two day to five days. Organization size range from six to sixty. Activity group ratios are about one facilitator to every eight participants. About one day is devoted to needs analysis and about two days is given on program design and setup. Facilitators equally divide their efforts between delivering creative activity delivery (50%) and (50%) on debriefing. The program disembarkation includes a follow up plan and is transitioned over to client professionals who have been participating throughout the program. Facilitators will keep unstructured discussion to a minimum and utilize group guidance skills to conduct the critical debriefing sessions.

Educational Programs

Educational programs change participant thinking and are about learning new skills. These are usually applied organization-wide so that new skills learned are reinforced. Reflection is emphasized, with activities tailored to the organization using general business language. Program objectives are directly related to organizational development goals. Client (human resource, counselors, trainers, or teaching) professionals from the client may observe or consult in the program, since they have the responsibility to sustain the transfer learning. As a result, the focus of the session is positive change with participants learning new skills, but the system that shapes their thinking remains the same. Program length typically varies from one day to three days. Organization size range from twelve to one hundred twenty. Activity group ratios are about one facilitator to every twelve participants. About a half day is devoted to needs analysis and about one day is given on program design and setup. Facilitators concentrate on delivering creative activity delivery (75%) and (25%) on debriefing. The program disembarkation is transitioned over to client professionals who have been observing throughout the program. Facilitators will keep unstructured discussion to a minimum and utilize group guidance skills to conduct the key debriefing sessions.

Redirectional Programs

Redirectional programs change participants resisting or denying actions and are about addressing dysfunction and correction. These are usually applied to paired relationships or to individuals within intact groups. Support is emphasized at the workplace or home. Activities are very dynamic to adapt to unique participant needs. Program objectives are seamlessly connected to organizational goals. Client professionals are equal co-facilitators. As a result, everything in the participant’s environment changes. Program length typically varies from two day to five days. Organization size typically is under twenty. Activity group ratios are about one facilitator to every five participants. At least one full day is devoted to needs analysis and several days are given on program design and setup. Facilitators divide their efforts between delivering creative activity delivery (25%) and (75%) on debriefing. The program includes an ongoing follow up plan and is integrated with client professionals who will support the ongoing program. Facilitators will keep unstructured discussion to a minimum and utilize group guidance skills to conduct the critical debriefing sessions.

Recreational Programs

Recreational programs change participant feelings and are about entertainment. These programs are usually applied universally to any and all participants. Hands-on action is emphasized and standard activities remain unmodified or are the same for everyone. The program objectives are disconnected from organizational development goals. As a result, change is minimal with little or no long term impact on the individual or organization. Program length typically varies from half day to two days. Organization size range from small to very large. Activity group ratios are about one facilitator to every twelve with a maximum of twenty participants. Minimal needs analysis is done and about an hour per day is given on program design and setup. Facilitators concentrate on delivering fun activities and no debriefing is provided.

Recreational/Educational Combination

Recreational/educational programs change participants feelings, , change their outlook on life, and address positive interaction among group members. New skills are learned as participants enjoy the experience together. These programs are usually applied universally to any and all participants. Hands-on action is emphasized and standard activities remain unmodified or are the same for everyone. The program objectives are disconnected from organizational development goals and focused on the individual.

Program length typically varies from one day to three days or a series of daily sessions each week over several months. Organization size range from twelve to one hundred twenty. Activity group ratios are about one facilitator to every twelve participants. About a half day is devoted to needs analysis and about one day per session is given on program design and setup. Facilitators concentrate on delivering creative activity delivery (50%), (25%) on debriefing and (25%) on having fun. The program disembarkation is transitioned over to client professionals who have been observing throughout the program. Facilitators will keep unstructured discussion to a minimum and utilize group guidance skills to conduct the key debriefing sessions.
